Your team's 2023 playoff outlook

Average Division Played (ADP) for all 495 11-man football teams

Hi Guys -

Welcome back to the next edition of Goosepoop (issue #67, to be exact)

In today’s note, we’re going to focus on one stat that is indicative of each Michigan HS Football team’s playoff chances: Average Division Played (ADP for short)

We’ve written about this stat extensively in previous years, so if you’re *NOT* caught up to speed on what ADP is (and why it’s important for making the playoffs), check out this post below:

The higher your team’s ADP rank within their division, the easier time they’ll have qualifying for the playoffs

A textbook example of ADP’s importance was Orchard Lake St Mary this past season. The Eaglet’s record was only 3-5 in the regular season, but because their ADP rank in D4 was #1 overall, they still qualified for the playoffs.

And rightfully so - Orchard Lake St Mary went on to win two playoff games before falling in the Regional finals to State Runner-Up Goodrich. Had we been operating under the old ‘6 wins and in’ system, OLSM’s 2022 playoff run would have never even started.

A Few Caveats

Two simple notes before you jump into the meat of this analysis:

Only *Scheduled* games are shown here. If your team has a crossover or championship game on their schedule, it will *NOT* be reflected here
Out-of-State team enrollments were researched by *ME*. The MHSAA does not yet have up the divisions for teams playing out of state games, so I conducted this research myself. That means it’s highly subject to error, so let me know if you think something’s off.
