How tough is your team's schedule?
2023 strength of schedule ratings for every HS football team in Michigan
Hey everyone,
Welcome back to the 68th edition of Goosepoop!
Today we’re looking at strength of schedule rankings for every HS football team in Michigan.
We’ll take care to cut up our analysis by division….. but we will also look at OVERALL strength of schedule rankings at the very END of the note.
After reading this, you’ll be able to answer the following questions:
Who’s playing the toughest schedule in each division?
Who’s playing the weakest schedule in each division?
Who has the toughest overall schedule?

Well, yes AND no….
It’s UN-believable in that Teamfi took us a loooooong time to build *just* right

A Note on Methodology
Before we jump in, let’s review how these rankings are prepared. It’s really a 3 step process:
All teams have been assigned a rating from our Computer Model, based ONLY on their 2022 performance
We’ve also assembled each team’s 2023 *scheduled* opponents (that means crossover and championship games are NOT considered here)
The average of a team’s opponent’s computer ratings is then taken. This is the team’s strength of schedule rating.
To use a live example, lets take a look at Jenison, the team with the hardest schedule in Division 1 this year:
Week 1: Forest Hills Central (FHC’s 2022 Computer Rating was 43.4)
Week 2: Forest Hills Northern (13.0)
Week 3: Rockford (61.0)
Week 4: West Ottawa (26.8)
Week 5: Caledonia (60.0)
Week 6: East Kentwood (38.6)
Week 7: Grand Haven (12.3)
Week 8: Hudsonville (38.6)
Week 9: Grandville (47.0)
The average Computer Rating of Jenison’s 9 opponents is thus 37.9, which puts them at the top of Division 1.
