i just updated my site with final 2024 computer ratings for every team

one note on these
(long time readers can skip)
my computer ratings are NOT rankings
these do not congratulate teams for winning the state championship, for instance
(that’s what the state tournament is for)
rather, these show who would be favored vs who on a neutral field
this is not a reflection of reality, which often differs from my model (about ~17% of the time, to be exact)
cass tech + some other observations
one glaring difference between reality & my model is cass tech
they finish at team #5 in division 1, despite winning it all
that’s likely due to their week 1 loss to rockford + mid-season loss to mlk
if we dropped those losses from the model & ran it on only playoff data, we’d very likely see them at the top
cass tech finishes as the lowest rated champ to win it all; here’s how the rest of the divisions went:
cass tech - #5
olsm - #1
zeeland west - #2
goodrich - #2
pndp - #1
lumen christi - #1
millington - #1 (wasn’t the favorite to start, they moved up over the course of the playoffs from ~#4, so don’t give me credit here)
beal city - #3
not bad - we never get all #1’s finishing as state champs
in fact, I expected to get ~3 #1s right at the start of the playoffs, and we were basically dead on, with olsm, pndp, and lumen winning it all:

yesterday i pulled all data for both boys & girls basketball through jan 4
here’s how the top 10’s in each division turned out:
