How the 7on7 Went

Recapping our first tournament

Hey Guys -

Last week we hosted 24 teams at Chelsea High School for our inaugural 7on7 tournament, and I thought I’d share a few notes on how it went.

Also, in case you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can check out my post from last week to get up to speed:

Tournament Champs

Redford Union was our tournament champion.

The ‘U’ went undefeated in pool play, with an impressive victory over Lake Orion.

They then advanced to the Gold bracket, where they defeated Ann Arbor Huron, Canton, and Chelsea.

In total, they had 3 wins over 2023 playoff teams, including 2 over district finalists (Lake Orion & Chelsea).

Here’s a pic I snagged of them with their tournament champion t-shirts:

One of Redford Union’s players, Tatum Moore, also won our Guardian Caps MVP Award:

6 Teams Lost Only Once

Redford Union was the day’s only undefeated team, but a handful of others turned in 1-loss performances:

  • Chelsea (Gold Bracket Runner-Up): 5-1

    • Lost only to Redford Union in the finals

  • Williamston (Silver Bracket Champ): 5-1

    • Lost only to Fenton in pool play

  • Canton (Gold Bracket 3/4th Place): 4-1

    • Lost only to Redford Union in the semis

  • Fenton (Gold Bracket 3/4th Place): 4-1

    • Lost only to Chelsea in the semis

  • Ann Arbor Huron (Gold Bracket 5/6th Place): 4-1

    • Lost only to Redford Union in the quarters

  • Notre Dame Prep (Gold Bracket 5/6th Place): 3-1

    • Lost only to Chelsea in the quarters

Bronze Bracket Shoutout

I gotta mention Eaton Rapids, who won our Bronze Bracket.

They were a 1-8 team last year, but they came to battle in bracket play, logging wins over Lakewood, Dundee, and Powers Catholic.

If you just scroll consecutively through my posts, you’ll see the pool results, too.

Lastly

This tournament only happened because of tremendous support from a few different groups:

  • Our Sponsors - Snipback, Capitol Varsity Sports, Raized Up, and Guardian Caps each donated something to make this tournament cost effective for our 24 teams

  • Our Refs - 12 members of the Albion College football team gave up a full day to referee our games

  • Our Teams - 24 teams from around the State believed in our tournament when it was just a pipe dream!!!

  • Chelsea Football Staff & Community - The Chelsea community was out in full force for the duration of the tournament, running the concessions, fields, and P.A. system.

THANK YOU guys. You made this event run smoothly from start to finish.

What a day!!!!

I’ll be back next week guys. Website’s getting updated for 2024 very shortly. We also gotta look at who’s playing the toughest schedule this year.
